Week 6. The Magical production week.
May 28th, 2007
Â
This week we were finally in the theatre for 100. Yay! I was so happy to be in the theatre because I could finally feel useful.
Â
Monday:
Was our longest day, I awoke with a headache but was soon forgotten when Tasha, Josh, Gem and I got on the train at broady, That then led us to North Melbourne where we swapped lines on to the Upfield line. It was marvellous. When we arrived at Jewell station we walked to Illy, for the daily caffeine hit. Why we didn’t get off at
Brunswick station I do not know. When we got to the theatre about 9:10 we were greeted by a very cold and bored Jarrod and Erika after discussing how far away we thought cooper and co. were, we decided to take a much needed trip to savers. I had a ball. I bought the majority of costumes then, or so I thought, and I was really happy with what I was able to get. When we got into the theatre, we started to paint the Boxes and the set; I decided to get people to try on costumes. It all went really well, we went for lunch, came back and continued to paint and just generally get set up in the theatre; it was a good day, and a productive day. Well done guys.

Tuesday:
On Tuesday, the girls: Gem, Jordy, Lisa and I left for the theatre at recess. When we got there Gemma and I started to patch all the lights, and work out a system for me to work with, it took us just over an hour, but it didn’t feel that long, it was good to finally do some work on lighting. When cooper arrived again after doing another trip to school, he came and fixed all the mistakes we had made which weren’t many, but it was good to have him there to help. I was really proud of Gem and myself as we patched it on our own. When then did a much needed coffee run, I think our chosen destination was red Box, Nice choice Jordy J . After we enjoyed our coffees, we did a run through of the show and I plotted the lights and put them into their presets and Jarrod used the audio. It was a basic run through, but it was good because we were starting to get the feel for it, finally being in the theatre, having lights, audio, and some costume, it was really coming together, After we finished the show, we did a quick notes session and went to dinner. After dinner we decided to do another run of the show, it was a long run as Jarrod and I were still only getting used to our equipment. We did another notes session, cleaned up and went home. A really productive day guys, it was great working with you. I love you all.Â
Â
Wednesday:
Â
Once again, Me, Jordy and Erika went to the theatre at recess. We basically did nothing until, Jarrod, Lisa and Gemma arrived after completing their Chemistry sac. Tasha and I went to savers, again, for our 5th trip in 2 days. I’m sure they almost knew us by name. There we bought pairs of pants, and finally costumes were complete. We then went to red box, went back to the theatre and drank our coffees, by that time the others had arrived and we did a run of the show in complete costumes, its was a fantastic run, everything went smoothly and we hit our mark with the time being about 2 minutes over an hour. We took a little brake and went to dinner. After dinner, we decided not to do another run, but instead we did some technical stuff, and we started painting the grey specs on the set.
Â
Thursday:
Â
Thursday night was opening night. We did nothing during the day, as we worked hard at school. But when we arrived at the theatre, you could feel it was going to go well. When the audience arrived, Jarrod and I were very nervous, the crowd was about 50 – 60 people which was awesome for opening night, especially considering I was expecting that for the entire three nights. Mainly because no on knew about it. Anyway, getting back on track…opening night. Our first performance went really well in both ways, technically and performance wise. The Highlight for me that night, apart from finally showing our work to an audience was the question and answer section at the end of the night. Having people like Angus, and Christian who ask real Questions really helped me reflect on not only my performance but everyone’s.Â
Â
 Friday:
Â
Friday night, our second night. I wasn’t nervous as I had done the lighting obviously the night before and all was going well… until I it came to “WELCOME… TO DEATH  And the lights didn’t work correctly, so I had to improvise something. It was alright. I thought, okay problem solved it can be fixed for tomorrow night. Next thing I knew… Sophie was about to leave the void. One hand is on the ‘Grab’ Button, the other, ready to fade the lights, the place went silent, and Sophie said her final line… “Everyone… And everything was… new†I went to hit the grab button. Nothing. Just utter panic. Luckily we sorted it all out. I figured if I just slid the fader up and down, I would pretty much still get the same effect, minus the flash, it worked for me for that night, until I could try and figure out what went wrong.
Â
Saturday:
Â
Our final performance. I was happy it was going to be all over. But only slightly sad that it was over. I was ready for this show, In terms of lighting, I had had one good night, one bad night, and this night was going to be my best. The crowd was in, our biggest audience yet. I think our Saturday night performance was our best yet. Everyone was on the ball, and that included Jarrod and I. The Question and answer session was a little disappointing, as was the fact we didn’t get to reunite with the Mt Scopus kiddies. At the end of the night, I was both happy and sad it was over, as I knew it would be our first ever and last year 12 theatre performances. Bump out was good; it went quickly and was efficient.
Â
Overall, I was incredibly proud of everyone. *how corny* we worked so hard and I believe it paid off which is awesome. Now we have our folios to look forward to.
Joy O Joy!!
Â
Love you all. J
